Notes

General_note: "Copied from the Original Ms. for Mr. George H. Moore, LIbrarian of the New York Historical Society, and compared by me . . .Richard [Sims?] March 1862."
Added_person: Hayward, George
General_note: inset: enlarged details of "The Towne of New-York" depicting the earliest period of English rule, ca. 1664-1668.
Added_person: Moore, George H.
Local_note: See map 8078, a folded ms. copy of the British Museum original.
General_note: See Stokes, v. I, pp. 210-212, and Plate 10 A,a, for documentation.
Added_person: Sims, Richard
Added_person: Valentine, David T.
Local_note: "Presented to the New York Historical Society by George H. Moore October 7th 1862."
Extent: 1 manuscript map on 4 joined sheets
Dimensions: 51 x 140 cm.
Medium: black ink on paper, backed with cloth
Added_person: Nicholls, Governor
General_note: This appears to be a ms. copy of the version printed in David T. Valentine's Manual as the frontispiece for 1863; however, the engraver George Hayward's street-address number is scarcely legible as 171, and, oddly, the ascription, bottom right, is to "T.D. [sic!] Valentine." There is no evident plate impression, but this may be a printed, same-size copy of NYHS map 8078, a ms. copy made in 1862 of the original map in the British Museum.
