General_note: "Gouverneur Morris, Simeon DeWitt & John Rutherford were appointed Commissioners of Streets and Roads in the City of New York by a Statute of the 3rd April 1807 in compliance with which they Reported a Plan of Avenues, Streets and Public Places for that part of Manhattan Island North of Greenwich Lane, Art [Astor Place] and North [Houston] Streets. The Author of this map was their Secretary and Surveyor and has laid it down on a reduced scale from the various Field Notes made by their order, and from his own particular Surveys in 1811, 1812, 1813 & 1814." This map locates churches and public places.
