Medium: black ink with color wash additions and manuscript inscriptions on paper, backed with paper and cloth
General_note: MS inscription left center: "To the Historical Society of the city of New York, this map is respectfully presented. By Wm. Bridges." List of specific "references" (prominent structures in lower left corner.) MS inscription on lower right corner: "Remarks. The elevations above high water mark are noted diagonally at the intersections, the roman characters standing for feet and the Arabic for inches. The monuments, are designated thus M.1 shewing the numbers on the stones on which they appear. The mile stones are shewn by MS. St. stands for street. Street is written in full in those that are 100 feet wide. The old streets, roads, and lanes are dotted. "State of New York S.S., be it remembered that on the fourth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eleven, before me De Witt Clinton, Mayor of the city of New York personally appeared Simeon De Witt to me known as the signer of the certificate of this map and acknowledged that he had subscribed his name and affixed his seal there-unto, pursuant to and for the purposes expressed in the act therein mentioned." "De Witt Clinton"; "State of New York. S.S. On the twentyninth day of March in the year of our Lord, one thousand, eight hundred and eleven befor me personally came and appeared Gouverneur Morris and John Rutherford to me known to be two of the commissioners appointed in and by an act entitled 'An Act relative to improvements touching the laying out of the streets and roads in the city of New York, and for other purposes', who did respectively attest and acknowledge that they had executed under their hands and seals this map and the annexed report according to the form and effect of the said act wherefore I allow the same to be recorded." "The Commissioners appointed by an act entitled 'An Act relative to improvements touching the laying out of streets and roads in the city of New York, and for other purposes', passed April 3d 1807, certify this map to be made in conforming with the provisions of the said act, and in witness thereof have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their seals the twenty second day of March in the year of our Lord, one thousand, eight hundred and eleven."
